Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) Support
Applying our expertise in architecture, governance, application, and verification to Department of Defense programs
DoD Program Support
JHNA’s expertise in MOSA architectures, governance, application, and verification helps Department of Defense programs meet statutory and regulatory requirements efficiently and effectively.
Our team is skilled in creating product line architecture strategies that improve fielding timelines, reduce sustainment costs, and redirect available funding, freeing up resources for enhanced or additional capabilities while leveraging reuse. We don’t just apply standards; we understand their architectural impact and that interoperability, portability, and reusability are built into the foundation of acquisition programs.
How do we support MOSA?
JHNA has directly established governance structures within DoD, ensuring that MOSA is not just a technical exercise but an institutionalized process. We specialize in scalable, reusable software ecosystems, enabling long-term cost savings and rapid deployment.
We employ standards such as International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 42020 to define organizational structure and governance of MOSA policy. We use tools, such as Cameo Enterprise Architect, to model enterprise requirements and define product line components ensuring the application of architecture frameworks (DoDAF, UAF, Enterprise Architecture Framework (EAF), etc.) to model business drivers and architectural quality attributes while providing traceability to required system capabilities.
Our Key Features, Benefits, & Applications
- Architecture and Governance Guide: We will develop and provide a MOSA strategy for creation, implementation, deployment, and governance.
- Verification: We will ensure that your software and system architectures meet MOSA requirements for interoperability, portability, maintainability, etc.
- Open Standards Conformance: We will tailor requirements to ensure your compliance with Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF), Unified Architecture Framework (UAF), Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE), Hardware Open Systems Technologies (HOST), Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA), and other standards.
OUR PROVEN IMPACT
- We guided the formation of Army Program Executive Office Aviation (PEO AVN) Enterprise Architecture Framework (EAF) and Enterprise Architecture (EA), ensuring the application of MOSA to acquisition programs.
- We developed a methodology to establish enterprise modularity applicable to any enterprise (currently under consideration by US Army PEO AVN)
- We’ve defined a product line architecture for Army Aviation to enable software reusability across platforms while supporting mission-specific variant capabilities.
- We developed processes and tools to evaluate software products against MOSA requirements.
WE ARE A TRUSTED PARTNER FOR
- Army: We are enabling MOSA-aligned software ecosystems that support multiple aviation platforms.
- Navy: We ensure new capabilities meet MOSA standards before full-scale implementation.
- Air Force: We are defining & governing enterprise-wide MOSA strategies for defense projects. We developed processes and tools to evaluate software products against MOSA requirements.
