JHNA's History
A tradition of excellence. For Warfighters, by warfighters
A history dedicated to the warfighter.
JHNA's story began in 2001 when John Northrop in 2001 followed his dream to create a company that focused on operational concepts warfighters might use to inform engineering requirements. Over time, the firm has evolved from that systems engineering company to a high-end digital engineering services company focused on Army Aviation, to a Digital Engineering company supporting clients in DoD’s R&D space.

In 2010, Ian Northrop joined the business and helped expand its presence into Huntsville, AL and Fort Eustis, Virginia. In 2016, Ian took over as President and then CEO in 2019 when John Northrop retired. The company has grown rapidly since 2016 through both organic growth and acquisition.
In the early days of JHNA, JHNA only hired 1099s and subcontractors. There were no employees--Ian Northrop was the first W-2 employee. He quickly began to evolve the hiring practices and culture by focusing on hiring W2 employees, building a strong corporate team, evolving the corporate culture, and expanding corporate capabilities that could provide innovative solutions to the company’s clients.
Today, the company is regularly recognized as a "best place to work," maintains turnover at levels below the industry average, and hires, grows, and retains the very best talent in the market. We track employee engagement scores and continue to see scores that indicate our employees are strong proponents of JHNA and its culture. We continue to expand, both through contract awards and acquisition.
